Mutale Nkonde
Mutale is the founding CEO of AI For the People (AFP) a nonprofit communications agency. AFP utilizes entertainment education to reduce racial bias in the design, deployment, and governance of advanced technological systems. AI for the People has two pillars of work:
1) ‘Race, Technology, and the Black Body’ focuses on the civil rights implications of government use of ambient technologies (e.g. police use of facial recognition, finger printing protocols used by ICE, FBI use of geolocation data)
2) ‘Race, Technology and Information Technology’ uses social media analysis to identify and reduce engagement with disinformation that poses a threat to our democracy. Then, finally, AFP builds power with Black communities and supports them as they engage with policy makers to ensure Black people are involved in the creation of our technical futures.
